NBC's Peacock streaming service has surged in the public's attention due to two things: the Summer Olympics, and also our helpful guides to saving via student discounts, streaming bundles, and such. And now? Now, we have a guide to getting your monthly subscription dropped to $2.99, simply by being a member of the United States military. It's possibly not the most effective way to earn a discount if you aren't already enlisted, but hey, we're not here to stand in the way of your dreams.

For those who are already enlisted, read on to find out the exact details of the military discount. The how, the when, the why. The what? Peacock, buddy. The who? You.

Peacock Military Discount FAQs

Does Peacock Offer a Military Discount?

To the surprise of no one who's read this far into this article: yes! Eligible military members will get $5 off each month of an annual subscription to NBC's streaming service. You'll need to verify your military status, but once that's done, you're on your way to saving a total of $60 over those 12 months. Plus, so long as you continue to meet the qualifications for the discount, you can renew the offer each year. (If your eligibility is coming to an end, and you don't want to pay full price, here's how you cancel your subscription.)

Who's Eligible for Peacock's Military Discount?

Peacock's military discount is open to any active duty U.S. military member, Reservist, or National guard member. It's also available to military veterans and retirees. The only further requirements are that you're 18 or older, and reside in the United States (including territories and commonwealths).

How to Sign Up for the Peacock Military Discount

If you meet the eligibility requirements detailed above, you can prove it to Peacock by verifying your status using SheerID. You'll be required to provide your current status, branch of service, first name, last name, date of birth, email address, and possibly a cell phone number. You may also be asked to provide proof of eligibility, which should be a government-issued document showing your name, branch, current affiliation with the armed services, and discharge date (if applicable).

How Else Can You Save on Peacock?

If you're not a military member or veteran, you still have a few other ways to avoid paying full price for NBC's streaming catalog. (Not that being able to watch Wings in its entirety at will isn't worth any asking price.) Be aware that all of these discounts qualify you for the Peacock Premium tier, which is ad-supported.
  • Student Discount: If you're an actively enrolled student, you get an even higher discount than the military folks — your monthly price drops to just $1.99. Students also have to verify their status using SheerID, but at that age, you should be getting used to getting carded.
  • Teacher Discount: Just like Peacock's military discount, this drops your monthly fee to $2.99. Also just like the military discount, it requires SheerID verification, and can be renewed annually for as long as you continue to qualify.
  • First Responder Discount: First responders get the same discount as students: $1.99 per month. And just as with the others, you can continue to verify with SheerID to renew this offer for as long as you qualify.
It's also worth investigating streaming bundles for extra savings. Peacock only features in one: the Xfinity StreamSaver bundle, where it's grouped together with Netflix (standard tier) and Apple TV Plus for $15 a month. (That's a $10 savings every month, but obviously it's limited to Xfinity internet customers.)
Meanwhile, there's no free trial available for Peacock TV, per se, but if you venture down through that article, you'll see the intrepid J. Ramhold has found a fun workaround. A free Peacock Premium subscription is packaged with an Instacart+ membership, and since Instacart+ has a 2-week free trial, Peacock gets the same free trial by default. Take it away, Homer.

Where Else Can You Get Military Discounts?

Of course, if you are a qualifying military member, your discount possibilities extend far beyond Peacock. A simple gander at our 2024 Military Discounts article will give you an excitingly exhaustive rundown of the nearly 200 offers that await you. These mostly take 10% off full-price items, but there are some higher discounts available. Some highlights include:
  • Home Depot: Once more unto the SheerID-shaped breach, where verification will earn you 10% off full-price items.
  • Lowe's: Using Verify with ID.me to affirm your eligibility means you get the same discount Home Depot offers: 10% off full-price items.
  • lululemon: Defying all odds, military members (once more verified by SheerID) get a magnificent 15% off full-price items. (Plus, if you're shopping in-store, the discount will apply even if you're paying with gift cards.)
Now that you're fully in the know regarding Peacock's military discount, the question is: what to do with the rest of your life?
