When perusing through all the streaming service options, Peacock is bound to catch your attention sooner or later. With its mix of live TV, classic shows, popular movies, and original content available, it should have something for everyone.

But with so many options to add to your lineup, is Peacock worth it? Read on for what to know about the service and whether it may be right for your viewing habits.

Peacock Premium Student Offer Store: Peacock Price: $1.99 per month for 12 months

You'll have to verify your status through SheerID, but when you do, you can take advantage of this offer. It allows you to stream a selection of favorites for just $1.99 per month. Note that after the first year is up, your subscription will renew at the then-current annual price unless you cancel before then.

What to Know About Peacock

What Are Peacock's Top Features?

Peacock has a lot going for it, including the following top features:

  • NFL matchups live on NBC

  • Current and classic NBC and Bravo TV shows

  • Streaming NASCAR races

  • Golf tournament airings

  • A huge selection of content, including original series

Note that for the NFL matchups, those are the ones that air live on NBC as Sunday Night Football games. Also available are special NFL regular season and special NFL playoff Saturday games. For the NASCAR races, those streaming are ones that air on NBC and USA Network.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Subscribing?

When deciding on streaming services to subscribe to, it's going to be a highly subjective thing. Your decision will likely be based on the individual offerings of the services, as well as what you enjoy watching, what your budget is, and whether or not you care about interruptions like ads. With that in mind, here are a few pros and cons specifically for Peacock to potentially help you decide.

Pro: The Peacock Premium plan (the most basic one) is included with Instacart+. That's right — if you already have an Instacart+ membership for convenient delivery of groceries, among other perks, then you can also watch Peacock Premium at no additional charge.
Con: There's no free trial (at least right now). Peacock has offered free trials in the past, and there's a good chance they'll return in the future. But at the time of publication, those weren't available, likely because the Olympic Games were still going on and Peacock is the exclusive streamer of said games in 2024.
Pro and Con: Peacock can be bundled now (sort of). Unlike bundles with Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN, which only require you to sign up via one of the services, the only known Peacock bundle is more restrictive. It's neat in that it's bundled with Netflix and Apple TV+, but it's disappointing in that it's a special bundle only available to new and existing Xfinity internet and TV customers.

How Much Can Students Save on Peacock?

If you aren't totally sold on Peacock and you're a student, you can give the service a try for less than what others are paying. That's right, students who verify their status with SheerID can take advantage of a Peacock student discount for the first year of the service. Instead of the normal rate, qualifying students can get Peacock for just $1.99 per month for the first 12 months. However, after that the subscription renews at the current rate (whatever it is at the time), so be prepared to lose that 75% discount at the end of the promotional period.

The good news is that since the rates just increased (more on that below), you shouldn't have to worry about that happening again too soon — as long as you sign up ASAP.

What Devices Can You Watch Peacock On?

The great news is that if you want to stream Peacock, you have plenty of options for doing so your preferred way via the supported devices. These include:
  • Android phones and tablets operating Android 6.0 and up

  • iPhones and iPads operating iOS 14 and up

  • Amazon Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices with Fire OS 6 and up

  • Android TV devices

  • Apple TV HD (4th Generation or up) with tvOS 15 or up

  • Chromecasts

  • Hisense VIDAA-powered devices

  • LG Smart TVs with LG WebOS 3.5 or up

  • PlayStation 4

  • PlayStation 5

  • Roku devices

  • Samsung Smart TVs from 2017 or newer

  • Vizio TVs with SmartCast 2.0 or 3.0 from 2016 or newer

  • Xbox One

  • Xbox Series X

  • Xbox Series S

  • Cox Contour Box with Voice Remote and Contour Stream Player

  • Xfinity XG1v1 (Arris), XG1v3, XG1v4, XG2v2, XiD, Xi3, Xi5, Xi6, and Xfinity Flex

  • Web browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari

Need more info? You can find more details on Peacock's Help Center.

How Do You Cancel Peacock?

It'll depend on where you signed up for your service, but if you're cancelling directly through Peacock, you should be able to simply do the following:

  1. Log in to your account

  2. Navigate to Plans & Payments

  3. Click "Cancel Plan"

  4. Follow the steps to complete the process

Note that you should see both a confirmation screen and receive a confirmation email when you cancel your Peacock subscription. However, it can take a few hours for the email to appear, so it's wise to leave the confirmation screen up while waiting for the email to come through. When it does, be sure to save it for future reference just in case.
If you signed up for Peacock through another service, you can find instructions for cancelling through those in the help center, as well.

Peacock Changes to Be Aware Of

Peacock has increased prices. As of August 2024, Peacock has raised its prices by 33% and 16% monthly for the Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus plans, respectively. The new prices are now $7.99 per month and $13.99 per month. This means the yearly prices have also increased by the same percentages, though you can still save by opting for the annual plan, since you'll receive 12 months for the price of 10.
Peacock no longer has a free tier. One of the bigger selling points of the Peacock service for a long time was the fact that there was a totally free, ad-supported tier that users could take advantage of. However, in January 2023, that tier was discontinued and is no longer available.
Peacock does not offer a free trial. Given that it's currently streaming the Olympics, it's no surprise Peacock did away with its 7-day free trial just before the games started. However, there are some workarounds to help you get a free trial of Peacock if you don't mind jumping through some extra hoops. And with any luck, once the Olympics are over, we'll see the free trial offer return shortly thereafter.

Is Peacock Worth It?

Given its affordable price tag (even after the increase) and the sheer volume of content available, Peacock is probably well worth it for many streamers. However, options for viewing live sports, as well as titles from networks like Bravo, may make it more worth it for some viewers over others.
